I do mine once a year on my track bike.

When I had a street bike I would do once every 10k miles.

Track bike: once a year or once every other year depending on use.

My street bike, a Triumph Explorer, says every 40k in the owner's manual. That cant be right?

any recommendations on shops to do a fork service? How much does it usually cost for both forks?

Dave Moss told me every 8k just as an average across the board but depending on your situation maybe more

What's a typical fork service cost? Thinking of switching spring rates.

There was a guy advertising something like $125-150 for both forks in the San Diego Craigslist when I was still there. Basic oil flush and replacement, new seals and bushings. I'm also interested in how much an actual shop would charge.

Might be irrelevant now but in 2015 Metric Method serviced my forks (gaskets, seals, bushing, oil) and I also had the bike resprung with Race Tech springs. Total cost was just under $500.

I've since picked up the Race Tech Suspension Bible and will be attempting the next service my self at a fraction of the cost.

noob question here: How would we know when we need to service our forks? like what are the symptoms?

Edit: there's a small family shop in hawthorne that charges $200 I believe for a fork service (parts and labor included).

Thanks, seems like a fair price. I have the BPF which may make a difference.

got a quote for $175 with forks off the bike which I think is fair. I am guessing taking the forks off the bike and putting them back on is trivial? I have done it before many aeons ago and from what I remember there wasn't much to it... any gotchas that I must pay attention to? It's just been ages since I did any heavy servicing on my own.

If that quote is including parts then that's a pretty good deal. Try to request oem seals even if it's a little more money.

500 is a lot of money. What's the price to do this yourself?

Just ensure not to over torque the bolts on the triple clamps and make sure both forks are same height.

Can get expensive for a one off as you buy the tools etc needed but for future services it becomes fluid, seals and bushes so not too expensive

If you want to save money, you can make your own fork spring compressor. I made mine from a piece of pvc and a couple bolts, and use a ratchet strap to pull it down. I never bought a fork seal driver, I use the electrical tape method.

Makes servicing the forks a piece of cake. Seals, bushings and oil usually total less than $100

There are some nuances to aligning the adjusters corectly so you have the proper range of adjustment, so I'd highly recommend getting the service manual for your bike if you plan on doing it on your own. Also there are instructions on how to bleed the cartridges

I am about to respring, revalve (Old style WSBK Valving to NEW WSBK valving) new seals etc. Tools are about $100 But this is for Ohlins FG series forks. I intend to do it my self in the next few months but I need to get the proper front lift also and money does not grow on trees around here
