Chuckwalla May 19th-20th. New to the area

Moved down a couple of months ago from the SF area. I haven't been to any of the tracks here in socal. Been to Sears point/Sonoma and Thunderhill up there mostly and High Plains in CO.

Just signed up to check out Chuckwalla the weekend of May 19th-20th. I also don't know anyone here really. I'm just going to ride C group, I'll be by myself and just want to have a fun weekend without pushing myself too much.

Anyone else going that weekend?

(btw, no offense but are there any other local forums down here that get a little more traffic? sorry for asking)

Normally this forum gets more action, but the last couple of months have been really slow around here for some reason.

Have fun at Chuckwalla. If you have one, bring an EZ Up. There isn't a whole lot of shade out there.

I found this forum recently and joined as it did seem to have a bit more activity, although slow at the moment, it should pick back up once the weather moves more in our favor. As Miles mentioned, not much shade at Chuckwalla so bring some cover of some sort, be careful though, the winds can be very brutal! Welcome Aboard!

Chuckwalla is a fun track. Enjoy! Don’t underestimate the time required to get there.

If you want to get a hotel room closer to the track, you’re stuck with Indio.

I was thinking of working a half day that Friday and camping at the track. It seems similar to High Plains raceway in Colorado, middle of nowhere and will get windy in the afternoon! It'll be like home haha

Yep great track. They run it both directions. Has a great banked bowl knee down the whole time. Cabins available to rent there on premises. You can camp there but no hookups in the pits. Already hitting a 100F there this week. Wind can be a killer. Will take your ez-up for a ride!!!

As for traffic on this forum, this is the most populated sportbike forum of SoCal. That said, there seemed to be less activity than when I originally joined a couple years ago but it may just be me.

You can other join manufacturer-based motorcycle forums and they will either have a California region or just members who activity themselves as Californians.

Facebook is another option. This is the Facebook group for LA:

Not knocking it at all, was just curious. I guess I got spoiled with BARF (BayAreaRidersForum.com) up north. It's not sportbike specific, but it's really active. I assumed there would be something similar down here with the huge LA/SD population.

I'll be there both of these days -- PM me when you're there. I usually camp the night before about 3 or 4 stalls away from the restrooms.

Right on! I love it there but after 25 years in CO I decided to find somewhere with better weather year round, and no snow/sand on the roads!

Usually roll in around 9 - 10p. Just depends on traffic on the way there.

How are the conditions in Chuckwalla these days? Any improvements on run off? That bowl is lame for bikes. I dont like it. That seems more for cars. The last time I was there was a few years ago when I low sided at turn 3 if I remember correctly running clockwise. Overall though it's decent, other than that drive from LA. I think it took me 3 hours to get there. :-\

The track is in ok shape, thereís bumps but not too many and I tend to use them as reference points. There was some pavement that was shaved to get rid of a few bumps in turn 12 (I think, donít quote me on that) and I know that caught a couple people out last time I was there.

Where did you think there were run off issues? Iíve gone off in a bunch of corners in both directions there and never had any issues. Although I think if you lose it in the bowl youíre going to end up in Indio

I've arrived as late as 11:30pm and the gate was still staffed. I wouldn't plan on someone opening the gate past midnight though.

Itd get pretty packed even after the gate we’re closed. They even setup a strip pole for late night party last time I was there... hehe jk, but yeah don’t worry about being locked out for the night. Ppl would still be coming.

Haven't been to Chuck in a long time, I'm going to see if I could make it out there sometime next month.

To me, the track has a nice layout. I've never heard anyone complain about the Bowl, All the peeps i know love it.
