The problem with tire warmers on a really cold day at Buttonwillow is that they will give you a false sense of security. You'll go out for the first lap of your session and think you have plenty of grip, but your tires will be cooling down as you ride.

If you're running clockwise (as they did on the 19th), the fast 2/3 of the course are only a bunch of right hand turns or very slight lefts until you make a hard, hard left at high speed onto the front straight. The left side of the tire has just had well over a minute of exposure to the air but no track friction to keep it warm. If you'd been assuming that since you have grippy race or track day tires and you used warmers so your grip will be awesome... you'll hit the deck.
