Thank You

I just want to Thank everyone for their advice and support for my first track day at ACS. I learned quite a bit after the fact about preparation.

I went to Michigan for work M-F the week of the class (did 12-16 hour days), prepped Saturday upon my return, and then drove up on Sunday morning. I realize now that was a mistake but at the time I couldn't do anything about it.

I ended up only riding for 4 rounds as I was just too exhausted. I found myself nodding off in the classroom portion near the 3rd or 4th session. I decided it was a sign and chose to sit out the next riding portion. Another rider in our group chose to sit out as well. My buddy pushed through and ended up low siding on turn 9 on the first lap. I felt really bad for him as his day was done but he wasn't hurt and the damage was minor (plastic parts plus front and rear brake hardware). I ended up doing one more riding session after that and called it a day.

I did use a tow service to get my bike up there and back for $80 so I did make at least one good decision.

Overall, I just wasn't mentally there; I rode mostly upright and seemed to forget how to hang off. Basically, everything I practiced I tossed out the window so I was slow and felt I didn't gain much and honestly felt overwhelmed the entire day. Thinking over this now, I'm sure I learned something and I'm glad to have those first day jitters over.

I did get to meet Pearl so that was really cool. What a great guy! He checked in on me and offered gas and other items when we saw each other. Thanks Ivan!!

I plan to get some leathers and attack Chuck W. next year. Hopefully I can get together with some members here.

Thanks again for the help.

James

You'll go into the next one with a better idea of what to expect and hopefully a bit more preparation. This will make a ton of difference.

Good for you man!
My first track day sounds about like that. Come to think of it, my 2nd and 3rd too...and I've only done three! Lol.

Hope to see you at Chuck next year, sounds like we're working on similar levels and issues.

Let me know what dates you end up looking at and keep that great attitude!

And I agree Pearl is the man. Humble, honest, and great.

Like many of the people on this gem of a forum.

James,
Great meeting you brother. I could hear the frustrations in your voice. I am glad that you took it upon yourself to take a break. I can't wait to see at another event, chuckawalla sounds like fun.

You guys are being too kind...

No one is Rossi on their first trackday.

It’s just about getting the first time jitters out of the way.

Be sure you order pix from your first so that you have something at which to point and laugh in a couple years.

I'm laugh/crying now. They already sent me a short slow-mo video of the double-apex turn but I'm still waiting on the pics.

sounds like a good thread to start: "Post your first track day pics"

Mine are hilarious.

Was hoping to do one this year, but the work and family schedule is interfering with everything. I will definitely keep a look out for your post for the beginning of next year
