Gear indicator dim display

So I bought this gear indicator off eBay about 2 years ago and wired it directly into the speedometer wire harness. Mind you the little unit works just fine but the display has gotten really dim and Iím unable to see the numbers in the daylight. Would you happen to have any recommendations as to how I can possibly make it display brighter?

If riding at night wasn't an option...

I'd wipe the smudges and try make a shade to keep the gare off the screen.

Or just replace it.

Looks like there might be a protective film still on it that if removed may improve the visibility.

unfortunately what may have happened, is that exposure to UV has fogged the plastic of the display. You might have some success with one of those headlight polishing compounds, but I'm not sure.

I wish a protective film was what it was but the issue looks to be underneath the top screen. I mounted it at a lower point with less light also and that didn't offer a change in visibility.

The issue looks to be underneath so a polish wouldn't be much help.
