Just finished rebuilding the front forks on my shadow today. It's not that hard to do and this was my first time doing suspension. You should be able to do it no problem if it actually needs to be RE-done

I couldn't afford that tool when I serviced and grafted the Ninja 636 forks onto my 650. I made a similar tool for about $15 or so in materials, a piece of 2x4 laying around, and my hydraulic car jack. Here is the thread on it, with pictures for anyone not looking to spend too much:
