I GOT A FLAT :/ - DYNAPLUG? - SOCALSPORTBIKES.ORG

I was geared up and mentally headed to ACH. Got in my garage, and noticed I had a flat :/.This is a first in all my years of riding; my luck has finally ran out. Which reminds me, I need to carry a plug kit and pump when I am out riding anyways; its been on my needed/to-do list and I think it's time. Anyways....

I took a small puncture in the center of the tire, deep in the corner of the tread groove. It's really small, and I am thinking the Dynaplug will be a good fix? No reason to make the hole any bigger than it already is.

However, I have never ridden with a plugged tire. And I mean canyon riding. Can I trust it? Would you trust it?

Murphy's law... in the rear, and with less than 1K on the new tires

If the plug is done well, it's as good as one without a plug in my opinion.

I've known plenty of guys that run plugged tires on track days, and I've never known anyone that traced back a problem to a plugged tire.

Now - I say - "a plug that's done well". No air leaks.

I've been doing a bunch of reading this morning on repairs, different kits, etc... from various forums and have found that the "Nealey" kit works better than the others due to the repair strand being made of uncured butyl and silicone rubber products that cure into the puncture, plugging the hole and forming a seal on both the inside and outside of the tire.

Said to be a permanent repair.

Plug is fine by me and wouldn't mind not plugging it with common rope plug.

If you want new tire I have a like new slightly used Q3 180 gonna sell for $100

I got one for you. I noticed a puncture in my husbands rear tire when we got to button willow. We ended up cutting the puncture and taking the bike out. I don't recommend it, we were losing 2psi a session.

But hey it survived my dumb . =)

Okay... so I was originally planning on using the "Nealey" plug kit to plug my tire. But, after placing an order over a week ago, I still haven't received the kit. I've been in touch and their customer service is horrible(small mom & pop business. Maybe drinkin' too much moonshine out there in Iowa?)

So I picked up a "Dynaplug" kit. It works... its kinda of a PITA to use, but I did get the tire plugged. Ive been ripping around town the last couple days and then rode ACH today. Checked the plug when I got home and unfortunately it still has a slow leak.

I'll probably throw an additional Dynaplug in it(as per the instructions) and see if I can plug it 100% that way. I hate to have to go through the hassle of removing my wheel + tire to install an internal patch/plug. But I just might have to...

With the money you spent on plug kits you could have purchased a decent "take off" from any number of plentiful resources in your local area. Just my .02

Mmm not really. I have practically new set of Dunlop's and don't want someone's "take off." I of course got a refund on the first order, and spent a total of $19.38 for the Dynaplug kit. I think I am doing alright....but thanks.

I don't believe you're doing "alright" at all, if you were you would have replaced the tire instead of trying to incorporate some backwoods billy bob patch job, which clearly was unsuccessful....but it's your life on the line not mine. Ride safe brother

Update: I now have over 3K miles on my Dyna-plugged rear tire. I've spent some time in the triple digits, several rides in the canyons, and no loss of pressure or anything weird. I now always carry a dynaplug kit under my rear seat.
