Road to Palomar Mountain

Howdy!

Well it's January 30th and today is my birthday. I decided to call out of work and venture off in a random direction on a motorcycle with the husband. Does anyone have know the preferred route to palomar mountain? I would love a turn-by-turn summary with maybe some "must see" spots listed along the way.

Thank you in advance!

It depends where you are coming from.

Coming from OC? Ortega -> 15 -> 79/Temecula Parkway -> Pala -> 76 -> S6 (up) -> S7 (down). Lots of people enjoy Pala Rd, though I usually just jam the 15 to the 76.

Otherwise just take 76 -> S6 (up) -> S7 (down).

Do yourself a favor and don't stop there. Keep going to Carlee's Place 660 Palm Canyon Dr, Borrego Springs, CA 92004 for some great riding to-from, and good foods.

Makes no sense to ride the same road twice.

/sigh...I really suck at resizing.

PS: as to preferred spots: Pie is mandatory at the Julien Pie company. https://www.julianpie.com/

As you leave Borrego Springs, keep an eye out for the Metal Sculptures. Very cool Americana there. https://www.desertusa.com/borrego/bs-art.html

Also, for Borrego, keep an eye on the rains. The bloom out there is amazing and well worth an April ride.

Yaqui Pass is known to be a place where California Bighorn Sheep can be spotted (RARE!). Keep your eyes peeled and if you see them make sure to take pix! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Location...alifornia.html
https://www.desertusa.com/bighorn/bighorn-sheep1.html

Mother's on the top of Palomar is a normally busy biker hangout. Unfortunately the food there is Vegan...but not bad otherwise!

Coming in off Mesa Grande towards Palomar there are a couple of really nice spots to pull off and take pictures of Lake Henshaw. By the same token, going up the East Side (aka, Fast Side) of Palomar there is a nice pullout on the right (Parking lot and everything) for pics of Henshaw from the "other side".

Among the personal favorite areas are the "plains" going towards Warner Springs. This time of year they are a lovely golden-green as the rain does it's job. Truly spectacular Southern California Beauty.

Most of all, HAVE FUN!
