El Mejor Pan de Tecate

I'm proposing a quick trip to El Mejor Pan de Tecate. Either Saturday, January 27th or Sunday, January 28th.

It's revered by most to be the best bakery in all of Mexico. Google this if you don't know about it.

For those that have never crossed Trump's great wall, this is a great, simple exposure to life on the other side of the wall.

I have a couple of ideas:

The Simple One:

Everyone enjoys a quick romp on Highway 94, at your own pace, with the goal of being in Tecate, CA., by Noon. There's a little shopping plaza on the US side of the border.

We cross over the border - into the strange land that uses the Metric system, and go shopping for donuts!

Once done with donuts, I can escort you back to the border crossing line, where you escape back into Trump's outstretched arms.

There's no reason, at all, to change money.
There's very, very little reason to purchase Mexico insurance.
Requires a US Passport, Passport Card, or Enhanced Driver's License.

You're back across by 1 PM and finish your day in your own style.

You can say that you've now done something that few have done.

Not quite as Simple:

All of the above, but add a lunch stop at a taco stand.

Living La Vida Loca!:

Meet at a gas stop on the San Diego side (I-5). Say around 10:30am?

Plan for an introduction to Mexico roads.
A trip down the coast (two $1 tolls involved)
15 miles of some windy-twisty free-road goodness
15 miles of wine country back roads
50 miles of Highway 3 to Tecate
Just over two hours in total, maybe two and a half.
Shop for donuts in Tecate!!!!!
Cross at Tecate, and take highway 94 home.

Again:

There's no reason, at all, to change money.
There's very, very little reason to purchase Mexico insurance.
Requires a US Passport, Passport Card, or Enhanced Driver's License.

You're back across by 2 PM and finish your day in your own style.

You can say that you've now done something that few have done, and you'll have a basic knowledge of the common roads, and a view of some of the uncommon.

So what I need from YOU:

If you're considering this trip.....

A) Saturday, or Sunday, or no difference.
B) Which plan? Simple, not quite as Simple, or La Vida Loca!!

You can hit the border, and flash your Driver's license if you don't mind a brief lecture. It's not as if they won't let you back in.

So at this point just Monkeyfist and I are committed to visiting Old Mexico and its lovely roads and stellar food.

The meetup point is the Chevron immediately west of I-805 on Palm Avenue. The address is 4360 Palm Ave, San Diego, CA 92154

See you there at 10:30 Saturday morning!
