Yet another Baja Donut Run

It is time to get another "Donut Run" together.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2019.

Here's a thumbnail agenda:

10:00AM Meet somewhere on the San Diego Side of the border.
10:30 Cross to Mexico at the I-5 Border crossing
11:30 Lunch in the Ensenada or Valle de Guadalupe area
12:30 Bonus snack somewhere exotic
2:00PM Gather at El Mejor Pan de Tecate and go donut shopping
shoot the , tell lies and other stuff while eating a donut.
3:00 Cross back to the US at the Tecate border crossing.

Some things to consider as you contemplate this ride:
  • There's no reason, at all, to change money.
  • Just need enough cash for gas, lunch and donuts.
  • I'm keep it short. Only 130 miles, give or take.
  • It's not a fast and furious pace. Taking time to enjoy the scenery.
  • Gas in Mexico is excellent quality and readily available on this route.
  • There's very, very little reason to purchase "Mexico insurance".
  • Requires a US Passport, Passport Card, or Enhanced Driver's License.

*** Can be done without the US Passport, but you'll might get a short lecture from the US Border Agent on your way back in. If you're okay with that.....

Those that have ridden this ride in the past should concur:
  • You have no reason to be intimidated about not knowing Spanish.
  • It's more about the journey, it's not a fast or demanding pace.
  • Good food is everywhere here.
  • I don't believe in "roughing it" in any way.

Everyone that's ridden this in the past has had a blast! Here are threads from past rides:

https://www.socalsportbikes.org/foru...d.php?t=448093
https://www.socalsportbikes.org/foru...d.php?t=455454

For those that have never heard of El Mejor Pan de Tecate:

Did some pre-running of the donut run today. Tough life I have.

Lining up the first and second food stops before donuts. Mmmmmm.

I've got some cool things coming together.

Rusty, how's the life insurance policy coming? Did you ever get that "group" rate approved?

I had to go to my second-choice for the guy to smuggle everyone across the border. Hector and Jorge were busy. I hope the folks don't mind getting cozy in a U-Haul truck under some lettuce.

Rodrigo? He's really nice and that lettuce is always fresh.

If you're watching this thread, and kinda "on the fence" about it, please consider joining this run. It's an easy introduction to some fun roads, a little change of scenery from the ordinary, and I can promise good food and smiles all the way around.

I'll post up a to-do addition in a bit, but so far, all the participants are veterans of this run. If there are questions or jitters about crossing the border, please reach out with questions. Either here on the thread, or PM any of us.

Here's my initial Roll Call for the Third Baja Donut Run.

IN:
Myself
BMW-K
Miles
Mr. Blue
Colorado Mike

Tentative:
Mang0
Mr. Green

There's a strong possibility I'll be picking up my Triumph from the dealer in SD right before our meetup time. I imagine I should be able to make the meetup time as they open at 9am. I'm getting some warranty work done.

I could always take another bike but then I wouldn't be able to smuggle as much across the border.

We're less than a week away from the Third Donut Run.

Everyone that's posted up for the ride is a veteran of the run, and doesn't really need any instruction. You know what to do/bring.

If you're on the fence about this ride, please consider doing it. It's a great intro to Mexico countryside, and the fun roads we have.

Ask questions to me, or to BMW-K, Miles or any of the others that are *IN* on the ride.
