Riding around So Cal in January

I'll be in town for business the second or third Sunday of January.

Can anyone tell me if it would be worth my time and money to rent a Multistrada and ride around that time of year for a day? I can't imagine Palomar being in very good shape? What about some of the lower elevation roads?

I wouldn't do Palomar in January. You could do Ortega.

Eh- if we haven't had any weather within a few days of your visit Palomar would be fine. There may be snow on the sides of the road, but so what?

So yes- rent a Multi and let us know when you're coming and maybe somebody here can be a tour guide.

Second Ortega. Also if you want to go north, 154 in Santa Barbara County is a great ride.

It will be worth it if it hasn't been raining/crappy weather in the week or two before.

Do you have to book far in advance?

Otherwise I'd just wait until closer to the date to make a decision.

We often seem to get random sunny nice days in the middle of "winter".

Where exactly will you be?

GMR and Malibu get a bit dirty with the rain but not enough to keep me at home. Usually avoid Big Bear and Idyllwild but thats about it.

Thanks for the reply's, I don't think I'd have to book too far in advance, I might have to settle for a Monster worse case scenario but I'd only lose the extra hotel stay (booked in advance) which I'd have to pay for without needing if the weather looks bad.

Palomar is fine. Just don't go right after a rain or snow. This weekend is ok. I'm going Sunday. Supposed to be 80F.
