Gun Training

Afternoon Ladies and Gents,

I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on a gun safety classes? I had a gun permit when I lived in Chicago, owned a handgun that my parents gave me and never once fired it. I don't feel confident in myself around guns and want to change that. Any suggestions on classes in the OC area?

As of now my plan of action is to read this book

CA Handgun Safety Boom by CA
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/hscsg.pdf

Take the test at a dealer

Purchase a handgun

Then take a class

I'm up in the Burbank area but if you want to go to the range with me, shoot me a PM. I can show you basics and monitor you.

lol one thing about the gun community is it's never hard to find someone that wants to help and go to the range

For real I didn't expect this type of response so quickly lol. I'm totally happy they chimed in. I asked my parents to take me last time I was in AZ as they have a couple of handguns and they told me they would have the neighbors take me... Which I just didn't feel comfortable enough going with them so I opted out lol.

So I went Saturday and took the firearm safety course and passed with 100% looked at a couple of guns. Fell in love with the Glock 19. Not to small, not to long can be concealed if needed. I noticed the price of used guns and older gens aren't much off from buying a new one. So I'm thinking I will pick up one next month.

Nice, man!
You're lucky that you don't live in LA. There's no chance of getting a concealed carry permit for me here at the moment. I miss living in the OC.

Hey Mike, might I recommend the Smith and Wesson m&p shield? I can walk around year round with the shield and alien gear and no one would know and is comfortable to walk around with. I winter carry a Springfield xd9, with alien gear, similar in size to the glock 19. Harder to conceal than the shield and not as comfortable.

My dad carries a glock 26, very easy to conceal also. Though thicker than the shield.

Since you are in the OC, I believe you can list up to 5 guns that you can carry 😁

I looked up that gun and that does seem like a great buy! I already know I can't just buy one gun and be happy lol. I need multiple guns!

Update:
I went shooting on Memorial day with a friend. I met him at Riverside Magnum Range he brought a glock 19 (my preffered choice) a glock 45 and a Ruger SP101.

I went in not really knowing how much kick a gun will have. After the first shot I was hooked haha. Felt like I shot a roman candle off from my bare hands haha. I had no issue controlling the gun after the shot and reaiming. I just need to work on not blinking after the shot and getting faster with reaiming. I'm not a fan of the Ruger SP101 it hurt my fingers a very stiff trigger and a of a lot of kick back from such a small gun. I had a hard time hitting the target and reaiming after each shot.

I want a glock now

Just wanted to provide an update: I now own a Glock 19 9mm

Picked it up last night and as soon as I got home I took it apart haha. And started changing out haha. Worried I wouldn't get it back together or I would blow my hand up haha. Everything went well, taking apart that glock is easier than a replica/airsoft glock. Except the fact the spring in the real glock is stiff as a .

Congrats on the purchase. The glock has treated me well and has been very reliable.
Agree with you on the sp101 being a terrible gun. I do love the Ruger gp100 with 6" barrel. I take this sucker in the car with .357 hollow points. Very minimal kick. Probably my wife's easiest gun to handle and shoot accurately. I have the blue one. Reminds me of the Dirty Harry gun.

Sorry for the ramble, it is 0310 and still unable to sleep
